The problem with Dr. Suess being taken literally

Eva: I'm going to go downstairs and get my blanket. You close your eyes and start to read the book.

Dad: Okay

Eva (adamantly): Close your eyes.

Dad: Okay (closes them)

Eva: Now start to read.

Dad: I can't read with my eyes closed

Eva (very confused): Why not?
